The Hobbit

Dáin II Ironfoot, also known as Dáin Ironfoot, was a Dwarf of the House of Durin and a prominent figure in Middle-earth history during the Third Age. Born in T.A. 2767, he was the son of Náin, and became Lord of the Iron Hills following his father's death.

Dáin earned fame for his bravery and skill in battle. He participated in the Battle of Azanulbizar, where he slew the Orc chieftain Azog. His foresight led him to warn Thráin II against pursuing the fleeing Orcs into Moria, a decision that saved many Dwarvish lives.

Later, Dáin led a force of Dwarves from the Iron Hills to aid Thorin Oakenshield and company at the Battle of Five Armies. After Thorin's death, Dáin became King under the Mountain, ruling Erebor with wisdom and strength.

Dáin Ironfoot died in T.A. 3019, defending Erebor during the War of the Ring from an attack by Easterlings. He was succeeded by his son, Thorin III Stonehelm.
